Community Based Policy Management for Smart Spaces

Access control in Smart Spaces requires flexible, dynamic and powerful management approaches. Policy based management has the potential to empower users and administrators in this domain. Rigid organisational models with pre-determined policy rules limits the possibilities for users’ interactions with the space and between each other. This paper outlines a community based policy management approach, which allows administrators to set boundaries within which users can manage the resources in the space themselves. It examines this model using the test case of a Smart Space in a university and finally describes the initial implementations of the community based policy management framework.
